ABOUT US

The Pocantico Hills Fire District serves the hamlet of Pocantico Hills, the area north of the hamlet which includes Route 448, Old Sleepy Hollow Road, Route 117 to Route 9A and the area along Beech Hill Road. The district contains 270 households as well as the main Rockefeller Estate, the surrounding woodlands and trails, the Rockefeller State Park, the Pocantico Hills School, the Stone Barns facility and the Historic Hudson Valley headquarters. We respond from the fire station located in the hamlet. Our neighboring departments include Archville, Briarcliff Manor, Hawthorne, Pleasantville, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, and Thornwood.

The Pocantico Hills Fire District consists of Hilltop Engine Company, No. 1 whose members are all volunteers. At all times our members respond from home or work to protect the lives and property of the fire district. The Company currently responds to alarms ranging from automatic alarms to structure fires, hiker rescues, car accidents and mutual aid responses to other fire districts.

The district only has fire hydrants in the hamlet of Pocantico Hills. No hydrants are located north of the hamlet. As a result, we utilize Engine 189 and Engine 190, Pierce pumpers that carries 1000 gallons of water each, and Tanker 12, a KME tanker/pumper that carries 2700 gallons of water, to provide the initial water needed in fire-related situations. In addition, we have mutual-aid agreements with surrounding departments. When a need for large sources of water is required, multiple tankers will be dispatched to provide the additional water needed.

In addition, Engine 190 carries emergency equipment including hydraulic extrication systems and stabilization struts to provide emergency response to all traffic accidents.

Hilltop Engine Company is dispatched through Westchester County Emergency Services (60-Control) via pager and siren notification. Emergency 911 calls are received by the New York State Police or the Mount Pleasant Police Department and forwarded to 60-Control for dispatch and management.
